If you haven’t heard of Murray’s Brewing Co. yet, do yourself a favour and get a few bottles here, now! That’s what we did last friday and couldn’t be happier. Hailing out of Port Stephens, NSW, Murray’s is a 100% Australian owned independent brewery with a impressive collection of unique beers that’ll send your taste buds on a flavour overdrive. We had the pleasure of sampling 6 of their beers (and cider) and spoiler alert… they’re all fantastic!

As they say at Murrays—No more boring beer, and we couldn’t agree more!

Pouring a clear pale colour with a light white head, the Moon Dog wowed us at first sip. Tropical hop aromas of passionfruit, citrus and spice hit the nose perfectly leading into a light, sweet and biscuity taste. Hints of caramel and dry piney hops are what make this stand out and could see us pulling a few of these out on a perfect summer day.

Rudeboy Pilsner 4.8%
Hazy blonde in colour with great head retention. Lots of bitterness ranging from citrusy hops that lead into a sweet malt base then finishing with a subtle, refreshing bitterness. A little too complex for our taste but definitely still worth checking out.

Angry Man Pale 5.0%
Beautiful spice, citrus and pine aromas leap out of this light-golden coloured beauty. Fairly sweet and dry mouthful with a long bitter aftertaste. Easy drinking with a good complexity, overall a good beer.

Whale Ale 4.5%
Slightly cloudy with a pale yellow colour, this one’s a fantastic session beer. From it’s fluffy white head to creamy mouthful, notes of citrus and a touch of hops are enjoyed in each sip. Fresh, light, fruity, sweet and smooth is what this one is.

Apple Shack Cider 4.8%
For a breweries first cider ever, this one is dead on! Light bodied, clear and the perfect sweetness with proper emphasis on the apple flavour. Easily the best apple cider both of us have ever had! We could drink this all day long.
Aroma 7/10   Appearance 4/5   Taste 9/10   Palate 5/5   Overall 25/30

Fred IPA 5.6%
God damn—that’s dark for an IPA. Murray’s Fred pours a dark copper hue with a soft creamy head. Huge nose of bright tropical fruits and sweet malt caused by aggressive late hopping. Bitter sweet is what this beer is, from its biscuity malt base to moderate bitterness. Great beer for this winter weather however could have used a bit more bitterness. Beer was a bit heavy however could have been the other 5 we tasted previously!
Aroma 8/10   Appearance 4/5   Taste 8/10   Palate 4/5   Overall 24/30
